Hailing from Sydney, Australia, the dynamic band Extra Time is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, “The Girl Who Rules The Sea.” Accompanied by a visually stunning video clip filmed at the iconic Bondi Beach, this new track promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its compelling narrative and mesmerizing sound.

Extra Time’s recent double gatefold vinyl release has garnered international acclaim, and “The Girl Who Rules The Sea” continues to showcase the band’s storytelling prowess and musical versatility. The song is a poignant reflection on a childhood experience of near-drowning at Bondi Beach, brought to life by lyricist, composer, and singer Brendan McNamara.

Brendan shares, “The Girl Who Rules the Sea is a song about almost drowning at Bondi Beach in Sydney when I was six years old. As a kid from an Irish immigrant family, we were strong on enthusiasm but poor on swim technique. I was lucky enough to get rescued by an Amazonian surfer girl who introduced me to many new obscenities, vastly expanding my swearing vocabulary. The song is a love letter to Bondi, where I was born and one of Australia’s best-loved beaches.”

The accompanying video for “The Girl Who Rules The Sea” is a visual masterpiece, featuring live-action drone and underwater footage shot by Leonard Clifford and Chris Flaxman, with editing by Nick Lever. Motion editing was expertly handled by French Motion Artist Veronita Va, who brought Brendan’s vision to life by creating an animated version of a Piet Mondrian painting. The video beautifully captures the essence of Bondi Beach and the vivid story of the song.

“The Girl Who Rules The Sea” is part of Extra Time’s album “Songs With Long Titles,” the band’s second studio recording. This album takes listeners on a journey through life’s highs and lows, blending classic rock with jazz and blues influences. It offers intriguing stories of life, death, delusion, joy, passion, and dreams, reminiscent of Steely Dan, Supertramp, and Sting.

Recorded and mixed over 20 days at Damien Gerard Studios in West Gosford, the album features an A-list of session musicians, co-produced by Brendan McNamara and ex-Los Angeles engineer Andrew Beck. The special gatefold vinyl album is out now and receiving glowing reviews.

Extra Time continues to push the boundaries of musical creativity with “The Girl Who Rules The Sea,” promising a unique and unforgettable experience for listeners everywhere.
