Magenta Ray Captures the Rush of New Love on New Single “A Kiss Like This”

Some songs take months to find their shape. For Magenta Ray, A Kiss Like This arrived almost effortlessly. Written during the quiet of the COVID lockdown, the single grew from a period when founding members Lisa Hart and Mark Larson found themselves immersed in music, creativity, and each other. The result is an atmospheric alternative rock track that bottles the exhilaration of falling deeply and unexpectedly in love.

Based in California’s Napa Valley, Magenta Ray has built a distinctive sound that blends guitar-driven alternative rock with darkwave, electronic textures, and cinematic storytelling. Fronted by vocalist and lyricist Lisa Hart alongside guitarist and producer Mark Larson, the band is completed by Alan Parks on bass, Joe Shotwell on drums, and Frank Acosta on guitar and violin. Rather than fitting neatly into one genre, Magenta Ray embraces a sound shaped by experimentation, drawing subtle inspiration from artists such as Garbage, Portishead, PJ Harvey, and Massive Attack while creating something unmistakably their own.

A Kiss Like This explores the magnetic pull between two people who instantly recognize a life-changing connection. Rich guitar textures, hypnotic rhythms, and Hart’s expressive vocals mirror the excitement, vulnerability, and anticipation of a first kiss that feels destined. More than a decade into their relationship, Hart and Larson say the emotions behind the song remain just as vivid today, performing an authenticity that resonates throughout the track.

The single was recorded in the band’s private studio, a creative space built inside Larson’s family home in the heart of Napa Valley. The familiar surroundings allowed the duo to experiment freely, refining every detail without creative limitations. One of the song’s defining features is Larson’s distinctive guitar work, where fast-panning tremolo and unconventional chord progressions create a dizzying sense of movement that reflects the emotional rush of falling head over heels, while layered electronic textures add depth without overpowering the song’s organic energy.

With A Kiss Like This, Magenta Ray continues to carve out its own lane in alternative music, pairing moody atmospheres with memorable songwriting and proving that some of the most powerful love songs come from genuine experience rather than grand declarations.
