James Tabbi Unveils First Single “Slow Slow Slow” from Debut Solo Album

James Tabbi explores the space between what we imagine our lives will become and the reality we eventually have to face with “Slow Slow Slow,” the first single from his forthcoming debut solo album, A Temporary Resident. The track introduces a project built around transition, vulnerability, and the uneasy moments that come with change.

For Tabbi, “Slow Slow Slow” captures a specific emotional conflict. The song explores what happens when someone tries to fight an emotional pull before eventually deciding to surrender to it. There is a sense of hesitation in that experience, but also an acceptance that comes when resistance finally gives way.

“It’s a song about the friction between fighting an emotional current and finally choosing to surrender to it,” Tabbi says. “I feel Ben and I captured that melancholic, vulnerable moment when you stop resisting and let yourself be completely and thoughtfully pulled into the depths of another person.”

The track was co-produced by Tabbi and English songwriter and producer Ben Hillier, whose production credits include Depeche Mode’s Playing The Angel, Sounds of the Universe, and Delta Machine, Blur’s Think Tank, and Elbow’s Cast of Thousands. Their collaboration helped shape the atmospheric character Tabbi wanted for the album, with Hillier bringing his use of analog equipment and attention to texture into the recording process.

“Co-producing this album with Ben Hillier was essential to realizing this new project’s sonic identity,” Tabbi explains. “I knew the atmospheric landscape I wanted to build, and Ben’s expert use of analog outboard gear and his incredible ear for texture brought a physical, architectural weight to the tracks.”

The ideas behind “Slow Slow Slow” extend into the wider album. Stepping out from The Heroic Enthusiasts, where he serves as lead singer, Tabbi used A Temporary Resident to examine the gap between expectation and reality while creating an analog atmosphere within a digital world.

“In stepping out from The Heroic Enthusiasts with my first solo album, I took a deliberate plunge into the tension between the lives we imagine and the reality we stand in,” says Tabbi. “With A Temporary Resident, I wanted to build an atmospheric and analog environment within our digital world that captures the raw feeling of transition.”

The album also follows Tabbi’s recent remix collaborations with Kristine W, David Cloyd, and Head to the Roots. Both “Slow Slow Slow” and the full album were mastered by ECR founder and recording artist Blake Morgan, whose credits range from Lenny Kravitz to Lesley Gore.

“Slow Slow Slow” offers the first glimpse into A Temporary Resident, setting the emotional tone for a solo project shaped by change, uncertainty, and the decision to stop resisting where life is taking you.
