Songwriter and producer Wrecobah returns with Rewind, a full-length album that reconnects with the melodic foundations and authentic spirit of Nigerian popular music. Released on September 4, 2026, the project marks a personal and artistic turning point for the veteran musician, bringing together material recorded over four years and setting the stage for a new chapter in his career.
Wrecobah’s musical journey is closely connected to the early rise of Dem Mama Soldiers, the influential collective led by Timaya. As one of its core members, he played a role during a defining period in the movement’s history. He also co-wrote the street anthem “Cutlass” alongside Timaya, Allenian and TJ 2Solo, with production by Akeem the Beat. His catalogue includes releases such as “Excellency,” “Mr. Successful” featuring Phyno, and “Turn Me On” featuring Flavour, reflecting his blend of sharp storytelling, energetic grooves and memorable melodies.
With Rewind, Wrecobah steps away from the excesses of modern studio production to focus on the songwriting, rhythms and melodic sensibilities that shaped his musical identity. Tracks including “Black Sheep” and “What’s Up With You” introduce the project’s direction, bringing listeners back to the roots of the sound that first established his place in Nigerian music.
The album also carries a deeply personal story. At a pivotal point in his career, Wrecobah became a father, prompting him to reconsider his priorities. With his music career rooted in Nigeria and his family based in Norway, he chose to put family first while continuing to create at his own pace. That decision led to a period away from the spotlight, during which life took precedence over release schedules.
Rather than representing lost time, the four-year period became an opportunity for reflection and rediscovery. The songs gathered for Rewind helped Wrecobah reconnect with his passion for songwriting, turning the project into a therapeutic bridge between his past and future. The result is an album shaped not only by musical experience but also by the personal changes that influenced the artist behind the music.
For Wrecobah, Rewind is only one part of a larger journey. Its forthcoming companion project, titled Forward, points toward what comes next, building on the foundations revisited here. With Rewind, Wrecobah reaffirms his connection to Afrobeats’ melodic roots while embracing the perspective and maturity that come with a life lived beyond the music industry.
