Emmi Edwin

Nigerian singer-songwriter Emmi Edwin is opening a new chapter in her musical journey with the release of Lavender Letters, an EP that draws on personal experiences and heartfelt storytelling. Led by the single “I Do,” the project showcases her growing Afro-Soul sound and her ability to explore emotions through intimate songwriting.

Born in Akwa Ibom and based in Port Harcourt, Emmi’s musical journey began in the church choir, where she developed an appreciation for melody and harmony. Those early experiences remain central to her artistry, influencing the warm vocals, delicate arrangements, and emotional depth that define her music.

On Lavender Letters, she leans into a sound built around guitar-led instrumentation, soft percussion, and layered harmonies. The production leaves space for her voice and lyrics, allowing the stories behind the songs to unfold naturally rather than getting lost in elaborate arrangements.

The EP explores themes that are closely connected to the human experience, including love, healing, family, loneliness, courage, and personal growth. Emmi’s Ibibio heritage and Southern Nigerian roots also inform her creative identity, giving her music a cultural foundation while allowing its emotional themes to reach listeners from different backgrounds.

The lead single, “I Do,” serves as an introduction to the project’s overall direction, offering listeners a taste of the soulful melodies and personal expression that shape the collection. Across the release, Emmi balances tenderness with intensity, creating room for moments of joy, affection and reflection.

Lavender Letters follows a catalogue that includes Ima, released in 2026, alongside Peace (2024), “One Day” (2023) and “Stay” (2023). These releases have helped establish her approach to songwriting, which centres on emotional honesty and understated musical arrangements.

Away from the recording studio, Emmi has continued to connect with audiences through live performances. Her appearances include The Mayor of Pitakwa Show in 2025, Johnny’s Room Live and Female Founders Circle in 2024, and the PH Photo Festival in 2023. She is also known for performing barefoot, a distinctive element of her stage presence.

As a member of the CBA for Africa cohort, Emmi Edwin continues to develop her sound while bringing her background and personal reflections into her work. With Lavender Letters now available on major streaming platforms, she invites listeners into a collection shaped by vulnerability, warmth and the many emotions that accompany personal growth.
