His music is characterised by intimate songwriting and emotionally direct storytelling, exploring themes of love, identity, personal growth and the vulnerability that comes with navigating life. He first began attracting attention in 2019 with his project Alte Cruise to a Happy Place and his collaboration with celebrated Ghanaian singer Efya. He continued building his catalogue in 2020 with Twelve2Five and “Crossfaded,” featuring $pacely and Whoisakin. His emerging artistry also earned recognition from The NATIVE, which included him in its “Fresh Meat” round-up of promising new artists. In 2021, Jay Cliff released the six-track EP Red Wine Conversations, featuring collaborations with Efya, TÖME, Ayüü, $pacely and Kaygee ADN. The project has since surpassed 190,000 streams on Spotify. Its standout record, “Chargie” featuring TÖME, has also accumulated more than 100,000 plays on Apple Music.
