Colourshop Turns the Sudden Loss of His Father Into a Moving Tribute on “Old Man”

For singer-songwriter Alfredo, “Old Man” comes from a deeply personal place. Written following the sudden death of his father in October 2025, the single captures the grief of losing someone close and the impact it had on his family. The song is an intimate reflection on love, loss and the importance of appreciating the people who are part of our lives while we still have them.

Alfredo wrote “Old Man” as an open-hearted confession during one of the most difficult periods for his family. With everyone coming together at his parents’ house following the loss, he set up his home studio there and spent two intense weeks recording and reflecting on what had happened. The surroundings gave the recording a personal significance, allowing him to document his emotions in a place filled with family memories.

The song draws on the intimate songwriting and understated musical approach of artists who have influenced Alfredo, including Damien Rice, Kings of Convenience and Bon Iver. His wider songwriting influences also include Lianne La Havas, John Mayer and Tom Misch. After developing the song in his home studio, he shared it with producers Jason Boshoff and Oscar Bragado at RoomTo Studio in Barcelona, where they worked together on arrangements that would preserve its intimate atmosphere.

At the heart of “Old Man” is a message about how quickly life can change and how easily important relationships can be taken for granted. Alfredo hopes the song encourages listeners to spend time with their families, friends and loved ones rather than allowing pride or disagreements to create unnecessary distance. The experience taught him that even a difficult argument should not become a reason to remain upset with someone close, especially when there is no guarantee of how much time people have together.

The colourshop project is Alfredo’s outlet for writing personal songs shaped by the different emotions and experiences of life. His music moves between moments of joy and melancholy, drawing on a range of influences while keeping honest songwriting at its centre. Now based in Barcelona, he plans to continue performing locally and developing his music from the city.

Reflecting on the song’s meaning, Alfredo describes life as full of colours, sometimes joyous and sometimes sad. “Old Man” carries that idea through a story shaped by grief but ultimately directed towards love, appreciation and connection. Rather than offering easy answers to loss, the single asks listeners to recognise the value of the people around them and make the most of the time they share.
