Apple Music today announces renowned Afro-House duo Jazzworx & Thukuthela as the latest Isgubhu cover stars.
“Being chosen for the Isgubhu cover for July is a huge honor,” they tell Apple Music. “This playlist is a true celebration of African dance culture, and to be the face of it means everything to us.”
Born and bred in Daveyton, Thukuthela was mothered by the streets of eTwatwa. He slowly developed a passion for writing and singing, but everything changed when he received a call from Waltz Music Group, asking him to work with producer Jazzworx.
The two worked together consistently and produced hit songs like “Vuka” alongside Oscar Mbo ,“Isaka (6am)” with Ciza and “Uzizwa Kanjan” + “Bengicela” with MaWhoo & GL_Ceejay. All 4 tracks hit the #1 spot on the Apple Music charts – a massive achievement for the duo.
Similarly, Jazzworx started pursuing his love for music at an early age, playing at local Carltonville clubs such as Corner Pocket and Jazz Bar. It was here that he met others whose passions aligned with his, and he began pioneering his now iconic Afro-House sound – heavily influenced by 3-Step.
To celebrate their feature, Jazzworx & Thukuthela have chosen a selection of tracks to be included on the Isgubhu playlist, including “2Step” by Shimza, Kabza De Small & DJ Vitoto, “Dangerous” by Sun-El Musician & Jnr SA and Caiiro’s “Ndisize”. “We chose these tracks for their powerful storytelling that resonates with the soul. These songs inspire us and represent the sound we stand for,” they tell Apple Music.
Isgubhu also houses a collection of alumni playlists, editorial playlists, exclusive DJ mixes, and additional content from the best dance and electronic acts on the continent.
