Modern jazz trio ATEMPO presents “Alien Samba,” a bold and imaginative instrumental single that merges Brazilian rhythm with futuristic jazz expression. Recorded at Gil Feldman’s Studio in Israel and mixed and mastered by Jonathan Yaakobi, the release highlights the trio’s distinctive sound and their ability to create music that feels both deeply rooted and forward-thinking.
Composed by bassist and composer Alon Stern and performed by ATEMPO, the track features Stern on fretless bass, Itay Abramovitz on piano, and Yoav Lachovitzky on drums. Together, they deliver a performance that balances groove, emotion, and exploration. The result is a rich sonic journey where samba rhythms meet cinematic atmosphere and modern jazz improvisation.
At its core, “Alien Samba” is built on contrast and imagination. Warm Brazilian and Latin grooves provide the foundation, while space-inspired harmonies and textures expand the music into new territory. The composition reflects Stern’s original idea, first conceived nearly two decades ago, and reimagined through the trio’s shared musical chemistry and creative evolution.
The recording session played an important role in shaping the final sound. The trio recorded together live in the same room, focusing on real-time interaction rather than isolated perfection. Gil Feldman’s Studio offered an intimate and comfortable environment, allowing the musicians to respond naturally to each other. This approach preserved the spontaneity and emotional connection that define ATEMPO’s identity.

While the performance remains fully acoustic, the production introduces a wider, cinematic sense of space. The mix creates the feeling of a samba transmitted from another world, reinforcing the track’s concept of blending earthly rhythm with extraterrestrial imagination. This balance between live performance energy and thoughtful production gives the single its unique character.
Musically, “Alien Samba” reflects a wide range of influences. The spirit of Brazilian legends like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, and Egberto Gismonti appears in the rhythmic flow and melodic warmth. At the same time, the trio draws inspiration from modern jazz groups such as the Brad Mehldau Trio and the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, embracing collective improvisation and treating the trio as one unified voice. Elements of cinematic and experimental sound further expand the composition’s emotional depth.
Founded during the COVID period, ATEMPO quickly grew into an internationally recognized ensemble. Based in Pardes Hanna, Israel, the trio creates original music that blends jazz with Middle Eastern, Latin, Afro-Cuban, and global influences. Each member brings a strong artistic identity, resulting in performances that move between quiet, meditative moments and powerful rhythmic climaxes.
Their growing international presence includes performances at major festivals and venues such as the Stanford Jazz Festival, EUROPAfest Bucharest International Jazz Competition, Neisse Film Festival, Jazz on the Sofa, Altmark Festspiele, Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival, and Monroeville Jazz Festival. These appearances have helped the group connect with audiences across Europe and the United States.
Beyond performing, ATEMPO also contributes to education and cultural exchange. The trio regularly leads workshops, masterclasses, and community music projects, using their art to bring people together and share musical traditions across cultures.
With releases like their album Supreme Chord and new original compositions, ATEMPO continues to expand its global reach. “Alien Samba” stands as a powerful example of their artistic vision.
The single is now available on major streaming platforms and is especially suited for jazz, instrumental, and cinematic playlists, offering listeners a vibrant and unforgettable musical experience.
