Indie artist Exzenya has released her breakthrough original single “Drunk Texting,” a satirical yet soulful track that transforms a chaotic real-life family incident into a universally relatable anthem. Based in Remote, United States, Exzenya brings a unique blend of pop, R&B, and comedy sketch elements to her music through her independent imprint, Exzenya Productions. “Drunk Texting” serves as the debut single that sets the stage for her upcoming album “Bar Scenes and Rumours,” showcasing her fearless approach to music creation and authentic storytelling.
The inspiration for “Drunk Texting” came from a hilarious and chaotic real-life moment during a family trip to Miami. While staying at the SLS South Beach Hotel before boarding a reggae cruise, Exzenya’s son returned from a wild celebrity party completely intoxicated and fell through the hotel door when she opened it.
“Drunk Texting” showcases Exzenya’s ability to blend bold storytelling with global pop appeal. The track draws influences from artists like Doja Cat, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and Pink, creating a genre-blending sound that is part pop, part R&B, and part comedy sketch, while still hitting with soul.
Sonically, the track pulls from the playful edge of Doja Cat and the theatrical flair of early Lady Gaga, while lyrically echoing the emotional honesty and satirical sharpness of artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Pink. Exzenya is particularly inspired by women who aren’t afraid to walk the tightrope between vulnerability and irreverence – those who turn awkward or painful moments into empowering, catchy anthems.
“Drunk Texting” transforms a personal, chaotic experience into something everyone can relate to. The song’s satirical and soulful approach explores the funny and sometimes awkward reality of blaming technology for our slip-ups. It’s about that thin line between comedy and disaster and the connections we build through honest self-expression.
This piece was written, performed, and fully owned by Exzenya under her independent imprint Exzenya Productions. The final mix and master were handled by a trusted professional engineer who brought the layered vocals and emotional storytelling to life, creating a listening experience that enhances the track’s raw and personal touch.
What made the recording process truly unique was not just the setup, but the mentality behind it. Exzenya recorded “Drunk Texting” in her U.S. home studio, inside a self-engineered vocal booth she constructed from PVC piping, duct tape, and soundproof blankets. The recording process was particularly challenging as Exzenya was pushing through antibiotic-resistant strep that turned into oral thrush. Despite her illness, she didn’t slow down, continuing to run her companies full-time with clients and employees, while also managing her international businesses, real estate investments, and helping others build sovereignty, second residencies, and global strategies.
Every recording session was self-directed, self-managed, and driven by instinct and intention. Exzenya didn’t use a professional studio or have a sound engineer in the room. Instead, she relied entirely on her ear, intuition, and emotional timing, performing, producing, adjusting, and tracking everything while balancing multiple businesses and health challenges.
“Drunk Texting” serves as the debut single that sets the stage for Exzenya’s upcoming album “Bar Scenes and Rumours.” With plans already in motion for the full album, Exzenya has completed three full tracks and is producing more, demonstrating her commitment to continued creative output.
