Jah9’s song ‘Humble Mi’ asks us to look within for our connection to the divine. If we can relinquish our need for control and the nature of reality as our senses define it, we can discover that we are part of something far greater. Well Grounded hopes that they have honored and preserved this original meaning of the song while possibly bringing in new listeners with a catchy and upbeat rhythm.
Song BACKGROUND
‘Humble Me’ started as an idea some years ago. Well Grounded had been listening to Jah9’s album on repeat (as he often does when he finds an artist/album that he really likes). In between Jah9’s poetic vocals and reggae-rich music (what she refers to as “jazz on dub”), Well Grounded heard the space for a reimagining of the lyrics and heart of the song over an afrobeat rhythm.
ABOUT
Well Grounded returned to writing and recording music in 2023 after a 10-year hiatus. Under this new project, he writes music that he listens to and releases in the hopes that it brings meaning to others. His influences are wide-ranging, but you can hear echoes of Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Protoje, Kabaka Pyramid, and UB40 in his music.
