Gregg Kofi Brown and Ed Sheeran Unite on Afro-Swing Anthem “The River”

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Gregg Kofi Brown has joined forces with Ed Sheeran on a new Afro-swing single titled “The River.” The song blends Afro-gospel emotion with modern groove, delivering a message about redemption, reflection, and spiritual renewal.

“The River” tells the story of a man facing his fears, mistakes, and doubts. As a result, he searches for forgiveness and a chance to start again. The song uses the image of a river as a symbol of cleansing and renewal. In this way, it becomes a call for people to wash away their burdens and move forward with hope. The track also carries a wider message. Brown connects personal redemption with global awareness and sustainability.

The location adds powerful symbolism. Belém sits near the Amazon River, making the release of “The River” especially meaningful. In addition, the project will feature an exclusive music video filmed in the city during the summit.

Musically, the record brings together several influential collaborators. Legendary producer Chris Kimsey, known for mixing multiple iconic albums by The Rolling Stones, handled the mixing of the track. His involvement adds a classic production touch to Brown’s modern Afro-swing sound.

Gregg Kofi Brown has built a long international career through collaborations with major artists. He recorded the classical African ballad “Lullaby to an Anxious Child” with Sting and the song “Shadow” with jazz fusion drummer Billy Cobham. Another well-known track, “Sunshine Day,” recorded with Afrobeat pioneers Osibisa, remains a dance favourite worldwide.

Brown has also worked with British pop artists such as Des’ree and Gabrielle. Over the years, he became widely recognized for his role as frontman, songwriter, and producer for the legendary Afrobeat group Osibisa. He has also collaborated with jazz guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan. More recently, Brown has explored modern Afrobeat and dance sounds. He created remixes with Grammy-winning DJ Louie Vega and producer DJ Paleface, known for work on Drake’s hit “One Dance.”

“The River” will debut during Brown’s concert series in Belém during COP30. He will perform alongside local rapper Fartura Flame, one of his protégés, and British-Nigerian singer Akin Soul.

With its blend of Afro rhythms, gospel spirit, and global collaboration, “The River” represents another chapter in Gregg Kofi Brown’s wide-ranging musical journey. The single brings together artists from different cultures while delivering a message about healing, responsibility, and hope.
