Poet meets songsmith in a fresh creative partnership as Jasmine Gardosi and Dan Whitehouse proudly announce the release of their debut single, (They Say It’s Like) Riding A Bike, marking National Cycle to Work Day.

Blending jazz-hop beats, lo-fi sound textures, and poetic lyrics, (They Say It’s Like) Riding A Bike dives deep into what it means to persevere. The single explores the feelings of falling, wobbling, pausing, and finding the courage to start again. The track is built on the real sounds of a bicycle, from striking wheels to ringing bells, which form the heartbeat of the rhythm section. Adding to the song’s energy, Jasmine Gardosi brings her beatboxing, mirroring the breath and momentum of riding, as well as the quiet bravery behind beginning anew.

This single is a song about resilience and mental health. The track was inspired by Black Country Bikes: Music In Motion, a community project led by Gardosi and Whitehouse in 2024. Through songwriting workshops, they brought together cyclists, poets, musicians, and even first-time songwriters. Together, they explored the question: “What does it feel like to ride a bike?” Stories were transformed into lyrics, and movement turned into metaphor, all culminating in this unique track.

The use of a real bicycle as a percussion instrument sampled throughout the song grounds the music in authenticity, highlighting the importance of finding rhythm, however wobbly, when life gets tough. The song’s jazz-hop pulse is both soothing and uplifting, echoing its themes of healing, persistence, and self-compassion.

Speaking on the single, Jasmine Gardosi explains, “There’s a reason we say, ‘It’s like riding a bike.’ The body remembers. The heart does, too. This song is about those moments when we think we can’t keep going, but somehow, we do.” Dan Whitehouse adds, “Mental health-wise, it’s a reminder that it’s OK to ‘fall off’. I guess what matters is getting back on, even if the wheels feel wobbly.”

“(They Say It’s Like) Riding A Bike” gently moves through important themes of healing, not giving up, and being kind to yourself. All of this is set to a relaxed chill-hop rhythm that makes the song both easy to listen to and emotionally powerful. Through its honest lyrics and creative instrumentation, the single encourages listeners to embrace their struggles, celebrate their victories, and remember that getting back on the bike, even after a fall, is what truly matters.
