Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... |
After turning heads with their acclaimed debut Mali Spirit just last month, earning praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, COLORS, BBC 1Xtra, and YourEDM, West African electronic trio Lagos In Paris are back with another bold statement in the form of their second single, Afro G Western.
True to their mysterious and nomadic identity, Lagos In Paris once again blur genre lines and cultural codes, crafting a track that is as cinematic as it is dancefloor-ready. Afro G Western is a raw, hypnotic fusion of Sahelian blues, layered electronic textures, and the trio’s signature ‘afraw’ soul sound. Built over two years, it features gripping vocal performances from Ghanaian artists Stevo Atambire and TSIE, channeling the emotional depth of traditional blues through a G-Funk lens.
The title says it all: Afro G Western captures both the Afro-rooted musical spirit and the cool, rebellious energy of Gangsta funk. It reimagines the Western genre through an African lens—gritty, poetic, and wholly fresh.
Visually, Lagos in Paris continues to impress. Shot in Abidjan and self-directed, the accompanying music video follows an old-school DJ-producer on a symbolic journey to uncover the perfect sound, a tribute to the group’s own restless pursuit of sonic innovation. The visuals blur nostalgia and futurism in the same way their sound does: weaving house, amapiano, techno, and funk through African rhythms and diasporic soul.
Slated to appear on their upcoming debut EP due this summer, Afro G Western is another chapter in the ever-evolving Lagos In Paris narrative. Operating without a fixed studio and guided by a global DIY ethos, their work is shaped by a rich palette of influences gathered across travels through Mali, Guinea, Senegal, South Africa, France, and Germany.
More than a sound, Lagos In Paris represents a movement, forward-thinking, deeply rooted, and undeniably global. With their immersive visuals and genre-melting style, they’re redefining what the future of African electronic music sounds like.
