Composer Larry has released “Believe the Promise,” a powerful new song created as a potential theme song for the 2024 International Pathfinder Camporee. This global gathering brings together over 60,000 youth from around the world every five years for a celebration of faith, fellowship, and adventure.
Larry, who grew up as a Pathfinder himself, drew inspiration from his own experiences with the organisation’s camping, camaraderie, and spiritual activities. The Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinder organisation helps young people develop their relationship with God while growing spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially through leadership, service, and team-building activities.
Larry Karpenko’s lifelong love for music and the support of his family played a big role in shaping the song. His family formed a choir for the recording, adding unity and warmth to the track. The recording took place at Kreation Records Studio, Larry’s own creative space in Loma Linda, California, close to Los Angeles. This studio provided a comfortable and intimate environment where Larry could experiment and express his heartfelt ideas.
The song opens boldly with its chorus, inviting everyone to join in its message of hope and promise right from the start. This approach breaks from traditional song structure and draws listeners into the heart of the song. The melody is simple, memorable, and designed to be easily sung by large groups or small gatherings alike. The line “He is faithful to see us through” is especially meaningful to Larry Karpenko, reminding him, and all who listen, of God’s enduring promises during life’s toughest moments.
Larry shares that the song continually brings him back to the piano, where he finds comfort and inspiration in its melody and message. He has been deeply moved by the reassurance found in the words, especially during times of difficulty.
The International Pathfinder Camporee is a place where young people build relationships with God and each other through leadership, service, and teamwork. Each Camporee features a special theme and invites musicians to submit original songs through an open selection process. “Believe the Promise” was chosen for its powerful message and broad appeal, capturing the spirit of faith, adventure, and global unity that defines the Pathfinder movement.
Larry’s recent orchestral piece “The River” also premiered to great acclaim, adding to a growing repertoire of spiritually rich and musically compelling work now available for public performance.
