Singer-songwriter Maddox Jones has released a special deluxe edition of his highly praised sophomore album, “Waiting for the World to Turn”. The new edition, playfully titled “(Still) Waiting for the World To Turn“, features brand new recordings and previously unreleased tracks, including a powerful new full-band version of his fan-favourite ballad, “21”.
The deluxe album builds on Maddox’s signature blend of indie rock, pop, and soul, offering listeners a deeper, more emotional experience. With 18 tracks in total, the album explores themes of reflection, personal growth, and the longing for change, showcasing Maddox’s evolution as an artist.
Originally released as a heartfelt piano ballad, “21” reflects on the realisation that the days of youth have passed, and that’s perfectly okay. Maddox explains, “I think as a musician it’s easy to get caught in the trap of thinking that you have to be young to be relevant. Remember that no matter what age you are, you don’t have to have it all figured out, everyone’s journey is different”.
The new full-band mix of “21” was recorded in Nashville at Martina McBride’s Blackbird Studio, tracked by Lowell Reynolds (Shania Twain, BoyGenius, Taylor Swift), and mixed at Sputnik Sound by six-time Grammy Award-winning producer Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White). The recording features an all-star lineup of Nashville musicians: Billy Justineau on piano (Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson), Lex Price on bass guitar (k.d. lang, Neko Case), Gideon Klein on guitar (Colbie Caillat, Delta Rae, Rodney Atkins), and Chris McHugh on drums (Kenny Rogers, LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn). This new version adds an anthemic energy to the song, making it even more emotional and powerful.
Maddox Jones has been busy on the road, recently finishing a successful run as the opening act for pop icon Will Young on his UK comeback tour. He is currently supporting Lucy Spraggan on her acoustic UK tour, bringing his emotive storytelling and unique sound to audiences across the country. Maddox has performed at some of the UK’s most beloved venues, including London’s iconic Union Chapel, Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall, and the O2 Academy in Oxford.
Maddox first found success as the lead singer of The Departure, earning four Top 40 hits and sharing stages with legendary bands like The Killers and Placebo. He has played at prestigious festivals such as Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury, and has performed alongside artists like Thomas Heaton, Beaux, The Lottery Winners, and Lemar.
As a solo artist, Maddox burst onto the scene in 2020 with his EP “Headspace”, which reached #4 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart and received critical acclaim from outlets like American Songwriter and BBC Introducing Northampton. His 2021 single “Can’t Wait for the Summer” hit #1 on the same chart, and he has continued to earn industry recognition, including a spot at #5 on Music Week’s Commercial Pop and Upfront Club Chart with “Make Me Yours” from his debut album “Believe It”.
“(Still) Waiting for the World To Turn” is a vibrant and emotionally rich collection that highlights Maddox Jones’ growth as an artist. The album includes new versions of standout tracks like “We All Need Somebody,” a gentle ballad about mental health and connection, and a reimagined title track that balances melancholy with determination. Each song is delivered with Maddox’s warm, sincere vocals and honest songwriting, making this album a must-listen for both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
