Joy Frempong and Melodydreamer, known together as Oy, return to their club roots with their new single “Nkrabea-Destiny.” The track serves as the title song for their upcoming documentary soundtrack, blending personal history with vibrant Amapiano energy, Afrobeats rhythms, and Highlife-inspired chords.
Anchored by a memorable hook sung in Twi — Ghana’s most widely spoken language and the native tongue of Joy’s father — the song echoes a soulful message of fate and purpose: “You call me, I follow you, my destiny.” It’s an anthem that celebrates rhythm while honoring cultural identity and lineage.
The single accompanies Fight For The Ball, a documentary following the journey of Kaka, a 20-year-old Ghanaian footballer chasing his dream of playing in Europe. As he waits for the chance to secure a visa, Kaka returns to Kumasi for an emotional farewell with his mentor, Coach Sani. The film captures ambition, reflection, and the unbreakable bond between past and future.
The cover art, designed by Yaw Tony, features a contemporary interpretation of the Nkrabea symbol — representing destiny in Akan culture. The artwork reinforces the song’s central theme: embracing opportunity while acknowledging the role of fate in shaping the road ahead.
