Auckland-based artist Peter Haeder releases one of his most adventurous and spiritually charged projects yet. His new album, “It’s Just A Game,” is not simply a collection of songs; it is a Dharma teaching delivered through reggae, trance energy, and deep dub textures. Blending tradition with experimentation, Haeder pushes the boundaries of modern music while staying grounded in his lifelong passion for rhythm, consciousness, and sound as transformation.
Inspired by icons such as Bob Marley and Grace Jones, the album dives into a unique crossover world where reggae’s heartbeat meets the atmospheric pull of trance and the heavy pulse of dub. This fusion becomes the backdrop for Haeder’s Buddha Dharma writing, turning each track into a meditative reflection on life, awareness, and the “game” we all play.
“It’s another crossover album again,” Haeder says. “You mix trance with dub and authentic reggae, then top it with Buddha Dharma lyrics, and what you get is pure bliss.”
Recorded in his own studio, the project takes an innovative turn with the use of AI technology. Haeder piped his original vocal takes into AI software, guiding the system with creative prompts to reshape and manipulate his voice into new colours and characters. The result is a sound that feels familiar yet entirely new, a textured, experimental approach that brings fresh life to the album’s spiritual themes.
“My heart is in this music,” he explains. “Reggae was one of the first genres I mastered. The counterpoint, the syncopation in the bass, that’s authentic, trippy reggae for me. Something special.”
At the centre of the release is the message carried in the title track: “It’s just a game, so let’s keep playing.” A simple line with a profound meaning, a reminder not to take life too seriously, to stay open, and to keep moving with curiosity rather than fear.
Alongside the album, Haeder is also set to release his single “Don’t Call Me Back.” With its blend of pop, EDM, and dubstep, the track introduces another side of Haeder’s artistic palette and continues to build anticipation for everything to come.
Drawing from the vibrant music community of Auckland and shaped by decades of exploration across genres, Peter Haeder brings forward an album that feels visionary, heartfelt, and spiritually rooted. “It’s Just A Game” is a sonic journey, a meditation, and a reminder that music can still surprise, uplift, and awaken.
