Wizkid’s ‘made in Lagos’ Becomes the First African Album to Be Certified RIAA Gold

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Afrobeats superstar wizkid has once made history again with his ‘Made In Lagos’ album by becoming the first African album to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

This new milestone makes Wizkid the only Nigerian and African artist to have his album sell above 500,000 copies in the United States.

The role of his global hit song ‘essence’ with Nigerian singer, Tems can be attributed to the enormous success of ‘Made In Lagos’ as it received massive patronage due to the song’s popularity in those territories. ‘Essence’ remix featuring American Pop star Justin Bieber peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is two-time platinum.

This is one of the numerous milestones the album has achieved since its release, with most of the songs on the album doing exceptionally well and breaking records individually.

Fans flooded social media with congratulatory messages to wizkid for putting Nigeria and Afrobeats on the map.
