Don Jazzy Reveals Why He Didn’t Sign Wizkid and Davido to Mo’hits Record Label

Renowned Nigerian music executive, Don Jazzy, recently revealed the reasons behind his decision not to sign Afrobeats superstars Wizkid and Davido to his now-defunct record label, Mo’hits.

In a candid conversation on the Leaderboard podcast, hosted by Fisayo Fosudo, Don Jazzy shed light on the pivotal moments that shaped the trajectory of these iconic artists’ careers.

Regarding Wizkid, Don Jazzy disclosed that he had wanted to sign the talented singer. However, Banky W, the CEO of EME Records, had already taken the opportunity and signed Wizkid before he could. Despite this missed chance, Don Jazzy acknowledged Wizkid’s incredible success and impact in the music industry.

Similarly, with Davido, Don Jazzy explained that he opted not to sign the artist because he believed in Davido’s potential to achieve greatness independently. Don Jazzy trusted that Davido’s unique talent and determination would propel him to success, a decision that has proven to be true as Davido has become a global music sensation.

He said: “I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine. Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
