Kabusa Oriental Choir Celebrates African Heritage on Cornerstone

Kabusa Oriental Choir presents “Cornerstone,” a celebratory Afropop-choral anthem exploring heritage, homecoming, and cultural identity. Blending rich vocal arrangements with contemporary African rhythms, the song delivers a message to those separated from their homeland, reminding them of the enduring connection between people, their roots, and the places they call home.

The song opens with a heartfelt call to never forget the ancestral homeland, celebrating its richness, sacredness, and timeless beauty. Built around the metaphor of a cornerstone, the lyrics present the fatherland and the heritage of Black people, referred to as “Ndị ōjīi,” as an unbreakable foundation that cannot be erased or forgotten.

“Cornerstone” also looks toward the return of wanderers, travellers, and members of the diaspora, expressed through the Igbo term “Agalacha.” Its lyrics celebrate the significance of reconnecting with one’s roots, highlighting the collective impact of people coming together through shared heritage and cultural identity.

Musically, Kabusa Oriental Choir combines its distinctive Igbo ensemble vocals with modern amapiano log drums, creating a sound that balances traditional expression with contemporary dancefloor energy. The production also recalls the nostalgic warmth associated with the choir’s viral releases, including “Soso,” which has surpassed 63 million streams, while introducing a fresh rhythmic dimension to its sound.

At its heart, “Cornerstone” is dedicated to every wanderer, sojourner, and person living far from home while searching for a sense of belonging. Through its celebration of ancestry, unity, and homecoming, the song offers a reminder that distance does not have to erase cultural identity or the connection to one’s origins.

With “Cornerstone,” Kabusa Oriental Choir brings Igbo musical heritage into conversation with modern Afropop and amapiano, delivering an uplifting anthem for the diaspora and anyone finding their way back to their roots.
