Today, record-breaking Ghanaian-American artist MOLIY released an electrifying VEVO performance to accompany her latest single “Backie,” available now on all streaming platforms. The Dominica Bouyon party anthem arrived just in time for Detty December and New Year’s celebrations (released 12/26), and the VEVO performance showcases MOLIY’s unmistakable vocals and stage presence.
On “Backie,” MOLIY leans into Caribbean club culture, continuing a streak of high-energy records that have helped define her as one of Afropop’s most exciting global voices. Produced by internationally acclaimed producer BRGZ (Central Cee, Davido, Omah Lay), “Backie” pulls from Dominica Bouyon rhythms, pairing rapid-fire percussion and bass-heavy grooves with MOLIY’s ethereal sound. An instant club favorite, the record reinforces MOLIY’s unique ability to create music that transcends borders while delivering an undeniable kinetic momentum.
“‘Backie’ is my hype-girl anthem: fast, fun, and full of Bouyon energy,” explains MOLIY. “It’s that moment you’re breaking your back on the dance floor with your girls hyping you up and everyone is feeling themself.”
MOLIY’s latest release closes out a landmark year for the hitmaking artist. Her viral song “Shake It To The Max (FLY) – Remix” was the fifth most Shazamed song in the world this year, crowned Billboard’s No. 1 U.S. Afrobeats Song of 2025, and named one of the best songs of 2025 by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Complex, and more. Over the past year, MOLIY expanded her global presence, performing at major festivals and heavyweight industry events, including the MTV VMAs, BET Awards, and Wireless Festival in London. Just last month, MOLIY was honored as Hitmaker of the Year at Billboard Africa’s inaugural African Power Players event held in Johannesburg.
“Backie” follows the delivery of “Body Go,” MOLIY’s collaborative hit with South African popstar Tyla. Released this fall, the alliance between two of Africa’s brightest stars effortlessly fuses R&B, Pop, Amapiano and Afrobeats, creating an empowering anthem for the ultimate girls’ night out.
