Ghanaian artist RichMaaryo is giving listeners a closer look into his world with the release of his six-track EP, Architect, a project that moves through the realities of hustling, falling in love, facing uncertainty and holding onto faith while chasing a better life.
Released via MADVYBZ RECORDS, Architect introduces RichMaaryo as an artist who is comfortable exploring different sounds while keeping his storytelling at the centre. Across the project, Afro-fusion, Street-pop, Afrobeat, Afro-dancehall and Trap become different vehicles for expressing the experiences and emotions that shape his journey.
The opening track, “Off the Radar,” immediately establishes the EP’s focus on perseverance. RichMaaryo reflects on the pressure surrounding the pursuit of success, including fear, financial struggles and the uncertainty that comes with trying to build something without knowing exactly where the road will lead.
The song’s “me can’t stop” refrain captures the mindset running through much of the project. Even while dealing with difficult circumstances, RichMaaryo refuses to surrender. His thoughts about working away from home and reassuring his parents that better days are coming give the record a personal quality, turning the hustle into something connected to family and responsibility.
From there, Architect explores another important part of life with “Sapa.” The upbeat Afrobeat record finds RichMaaryo in a more playful mood as he sings about attraction, companionship and wanting someone special to come closer. The mixture of Pidgin, Twi and Nigerian expressions adds to the song’s distinctly West African character.
“Relationship” provides a sharper emotional contrast. Here, RichMaaryo moves away from the excitement of new attraction and examines what happens when love begins to disappear. The song captures the frustration of trying to hold onto someone while recognising that the relationship may already be changing.
His vulnerability becomes one of the record’s strongest qualities. Although RichMaaryo maintains the confident persona associated with his street-influenced sound, “Relationship” reveals the emotional cost of heartbreak and introduces faith as another source of strength.
The hunger for success returns strongly on “Going for the Prize.” Driven by Afro-dancehall and Trap influences, the record is about refusing to remain stagnant. Money and financial freedom become symbols of progress, while RichMaaryo’s references to his Ashongman roots connect his ambitions to the environment that shaped him.
“Te Amo” brings another dimension to his pursuit of a better life. The soulful Afro-fusion record presents love as a partnership through difficult times. RichMaaryo promises to remain committed while working towards the future he envisions, turning ambitions of success and luxury into symbols of what he hopes to eventually provide for the person he loves.
The EP closes with “Trap Life,” its most reflective examination of survival. RichMaaryo considers the realities of growing up with limited opportunities and the difficult choices that can emerge from trying to escape those circumstances.
The question of whether the life he is living will ultimately save him or keep him trapped gives the song its emotional tension. Childhood ambitions of becoming a doctor or a baller are contrasted with the realities of adulthood, while references to God highlight the artist’s search for direction beyond material success.
What makes Architect interesting is the way these different themes speak to one another. The project is not simply about hustling or romance. It is about the person behind both experiences, someone trying to build a future while dealing with pressure, relationships, uncertainty and the expectations that come with wanting more.
