Ghanaian live music collective Senkulive have officially launched the rollout of their forthcoming project, The Revival, with the release of their first single, “Oblayoo,” on 5 August 2026.
The new record introduces listeners to Senkulive’s distinctive musical world, where Ghanaian traditional music meets Afro-punk, Highlife, Rap and Afrobeats. Built around live instrumentation, funky guitar work and contemporary influences, “Oblayoo” celebrates Ghanaian culture while demonstrating the band’s commitment to keeping live music at the centre of their sound.
Rooted in Accra’s musical and cultural heritage, “Oblayoo” incorporates both English and Ga lyrics to tell a story centred around taking a lady to Jamestown, one of the city’s historic coastal communities. Through its storytelling and traditional influences, the song becomes more than a contemporary release, serving as a celebration of Ga identity, culture and legacy.
The single sets the tone for The Revival, a project designed to connect Ghana’s rich musical history with a new generation of listeners. Senkulive’s approach does not simply recreate traditional sounds; instead, the collective places them within a modern live-band setting that moves comfortably across genres and generations.
Rather than releasing The Revival as a complete project, Senkulive is taking a waterfall approach, introducing a new song approximately every month while keeping previous releases available across streaming platforms. Each new release will also be accompanied by a live performance video, allowing audiences to experience the songs in the environment where Senkulive’s musical identity is most powerful: on stage.
The band’s live setup features keyboard, drums, bass, lead guitar and percussion, complemented by additional instruments such as saxophone and trumpet. This expansive arrangement allows the collective to build a sound that remains firmly rooted in Ghanaian traditional music while embracing contemporary African and global influences.
“Oblayoo” was written by Senkulive leader and keyboard player niiSanku Dromor and composed by the band. The record was recorded by Andrew James Addo at Nafti Studios, with mixing and mastering handled by Knii Lant3i, who also serves as the band’s guitarist.
The recording features vocals from niiSanku Dromor, drums by Niiayi Lucas, bass by Derrick “deebass,” percussion from Mr. Quist and Mawuko, saxophone by Nana Sax and trumpet by Senanu Excite.
With “Oblayoo,” Senkulive begin The Revival by looking back to the cultural roots of Accra while presenting those influences through the energy, musicianship and spontaneity of a contemporary Ghanaian live ensemble.
The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, accompanied by a live performance video that marks the first chapter of Senkulive’s The Revival release series.
