Ghanaian breakout star Black Sherif opens the door to his inner world with Sun Sherif, a new six-track EP released via EMPIRE. Born from the intimacy of the bedroom—a place of solitude, reflection and creation—the Sun Sherif era captures the artist at his most open and unguarded.
Across the project, he traces the quiet rhythms of his days, moving between private thoughts at dawn, late-night reflections and deeply personal music once kept from the outside world. The EP also features two standout collaborators: AratheJay, the rapidly rising Ghanaian Afrobeats and highlife artist celebrated for his spiritual, conscious and introspective sound; and Full Blown, the Trinidad and Tobago musical and production duo formed by brothers Kory and Kevon Hart. Black Sherif offered the first glimpse of the project during an exclusive listening session in London in August. Describing Sun Sherif as “more than an EP,” he presents it as an open door into his private space, a vivid portrait of the thoughts, sounds and everyday moments that shape him.
Black Sherif’s ascent in the global music landscape has been nothing short of meteoric. Hailing from Ghana’s Ashanti Region, the genre-defying artist has cultivated a rapidly growing international following, captivating audiences with his distinctive voice and emotionally resonant storytelling.
Sherif first emerged in 2020 with early releases such as “Money” and “Destiny,” quickly establishing himself as a compelling new voice within the Ghanaian music scene. His breakthrough came with the Sermon freestyle series, which laid the foundation for his global smash hit “Kwaku the Traveller.” The record became a worldwide phenomenon, earning the distinction of the most Shazamed song globally and generating over one million TikTok creations. Building on this momentum, Black Sherif has continued to expand his reach through high-profile collaborations with international heavyweights including Burna Boy, Vic Mensa, and Darkoo.
His IRONBOY album was acclaimed and led to an iconic debut COLORS performance of ‘One’, followed by a IRONBOY tour across the US and Europe culminating with 2 sold out shows at Shepherds Bush Empire. His impact has been further recognised with 8 nominations at The Ghana Music Awards this year, plus previous nomination for Best International Flow at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, solidifying his position as one of Africa’s most exciting musical exports.
