Brendan McNamara’s project, Extra Time, has kicked off the new year with a bang with the release of his brand new single “Where Is The Light”. The track, which serves as the first single from his highly anticipated second album, “Songs With Long Titles”, has been making waves since its debut on January 22.
“Where Is The Light” is a reflection on the phenomenon of Japanese ‘Hikikomori’, a state of severe social withdrawal commonly observed in young adolescent males. This theme, highly relevant in today’s digitally connected world, strikes a chord with listeners, resonating with themes of loneliness and isolation.
The accompanying animated film clip, created by the renowned Sydney-based Brazilian artist, Gabriel Gareso, has further elevated the song’s impact. Gareso’s captivating visuals bring McNamara’s emotive lyrics to life, offering a compelling visual narrative that complements the music seamlessly. The film clip has already garnered significant recognition, having been officially selected for the prestigious Berlin Lift-Off Film Festival, scheduled to screen in Berlin, Germany between February 15 and 25.
Gareso, in his debut as a music video creator, shared his insights into the project, stating, “My goal was to delve into the emotional aspects of loneliness, highlighting that despite being more virtually connected than ever, loneliness and depression also seem stronger than ever.” His poignant interpretation of the song’s themes has resonated with audiences worldwide, with the video amassing over 96,000 views.
In addition to the digital release, fans have the unique opportunity to engage with the album’s interactive promotion through billboards featuring the album cover art created by German artist Lucas Zimmerman. Extra Time encourages fans to snap a selfie with one of the billboards and share it on social media, tagging @extra_time_music.
For audiophiles and collectors, the vinyl release of “Where Is The Light” is now available for preorder. Presented in a beautiful gatefold packaging, the vinyl is set to be released globally on Foghorn Records. Recorded and mixed at the renowned Damien Gerard Studios in West Gosford, Australia, the album boasts top-tier engineering by ex-Los Angeles engineer Andrew Beck and mastering by Grammy Award Winner William Bowden.
“Where Is The Light” marks another triumphant chapter in Extra Time’s musical journey, showcasing McNamara’s continued evolution as a songwriter and storyteller.
