ONErpm strikes publishing copyright deal with Unison

Music distribution company ONErpm has partnered with Unison on a publishing copyright deal. The partnership follows the digital distributor’s recent expansion into new European and African markets. It will optimise the collection of royalties for both online and offline uses of its catalogue in the aforementioned territories with streamlined rights management.

ONErpm’s publishing and rights management department was founded last year. It now has a catalogue spanning more than 40 000 musical works and more than 2 000 composers.

Unison is a Spain-based independent management entity (IME), which launched earlier this year. It offers global copyright management to its clients, with direct multi-territorial deals through digital music streaming platforms and partnerships with various organisations.

Unison represents the management rights of more than 600 000 works for international clients, including 20 partnerships with performance rights organisations in markets outside of Europe, such as Nigeria via the Copyright Society of Nigeria and South Africa through the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association and the Southern African Music Rights Organisation. It recently became the first European IME with the power to directly grant multi-territorial digital licenses in the EU.

“This is another huge step towards providing our independent creative community a full integrated global publishing collection service, and a relevant path for career success within the global music industry,” ONErpm global head of rights management Diego Maldonado said.

Unison CEO Jordi Puy said: “It is extremely exciting for us to start working with ONErpm to support their mission to improve copyrights collections in Europe and Africa for their clients.

“ONErpm is globally respected for its services to creators in the digital landscape. The catalogue represented by its publishing arm is of great quality and interest. We will work hard to optimise ONErpm’s copyright collections performance in those territories, benefiting from our multi-territorial licensing resources and our on-the-ground capabilities and partnerships.
