South African rap artist, JR, has taken a direct hit at Nigerian star, Burna Boy – According to JR, Burna Boy is guilty of copying the music of late Nigerian artist, Fela Kuti
Tabure Thabo Bogopa Junior, better known to his fans as JR, is a South African rapper known for hits like Show Dem (Make the Circle Bigger) and is greatly admired for his work. He recently took a jab at a fellow African artist, Nigerian award-winning musician, Burna Boy. JR commented on a tweep saying that Burna Boy is influenced by the music of late Nigerian artist Fela Kuti and his words made it clear that he thinks Burna Boy is taking the work of another artist as his own.

Burna Boy’s music isn’t without fans – he recently scooped up an award for his contribution to African music. He won the Best Africa Act Award at the 2019 MTV EMA Awards on 3 November, Comments like the one made by JR and fellow social media users will likely only make the current relationship between South African and Nigerian music lovers even more tense. Things got sour between Burna Boy and AKA earlier and there were some threats of violence made which were slammed by the Africa Unite concert promoters. Africa Unite was in charge of the Nigerian muso’s travel to SA to perform.
