Ambient project Ship Says Om and Swedish singer Emma Lucia invite listeners into a meditative sonic landscape with “Water Prayer,” the first single from their collaborative EP, Djuphjärtad (Deep-Hearted). Blending organic field recordings, ambient textures, and delicate vocal expression, the release explores the emotional and spiritual connection between nature, stillness, and human experience.
Born from a friendship within the Berkeley, California music community, the collaboration began when Emma Lucia invited Jenny Gillespie Mason, the creative force behind Ship Says Om, to reimagine several of her songs through a more atmospheric and exploratory lens. The result is a project that seamlessly combines Lucia’s luminous vocals with Mason’s immersive production, creating music that feels intimate, cinematic, and deeply contemplative.
“Water Prayer” serves as the EP’s emotional centerpiece, offering a wordless meditation that uses sound rather than lyrics to evoke reflection, peace, and connection with the natural world. Instead of relying on conventional song structure, the track unfolds through layered textures and environmental recordings, inviting listeners into a calm, immersive listening experience.
Throughout Djuphjärtad, two distinct emotional currents emerge. Songs such as “Keep Me” and “Feel Your Eyes” explore the anticipation and vulnerability of new love, while “Ditt Hjärta” and “Water Prayer” embrace elemental soundscapes inspired by nature and quiet introspection.
Mason’s production draws extensively from found sounds, including birdsong, wind, thunder, rustling trees, owls, and the rhythmic movement of oars across water. These organic recordings intertwine with ambient synthesizers, acoustic guitar, piano, and subtle percussion, creating rich sonic environments that feel both grounded and ethereal.
The result is a body of work that evokes the stillness of forests, lakes, and open landscapes while gently exploring themes of love, presence, and emotional transformation. Echoes of experimental ambient music and contemporary composition can be heard throughout the project, reflecting influences that prioritize atmosphere, patience, and emotional resonance over conventional songwriting.
With “Water Prayer,” Ship Says Om and Emma Lucia create an immersive listening experience where nature, emotion, and sound become inseparable. As the opening chapter of Djuphjärtad, the single offers a peaceful invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and experience music as a space for reflection as much as expression.
