Berlin-based artist Giddens returns with his new single “We No Play,” released on April 17 as the first official entry into his upcoming concept album FTM.
Positioned as more than a standalone release, “We No Play” functions as a statement of intent. The track captures cycles of pressure, resilience, and constant forward motion, introducing the central idea behind the project: adaptation as survival, and the emotional cost that comes with it.
Rooted in lived experiences between Berlin and Accra, the single reflects themes of identity under pressure, emotional endurance, and the tension between belonging and self-preservation. It sits in a space where movement becomes necessary, but stability becomes harder to hold onto.
The upcoming album FTM expands on this foundation as a concept-driven body of work exploring fragmentation, diaspora, and emotional survival. Rather than following a traditional linear structure, the project unfolds in layered pieces, mirroring memory, repetition, and the instability of modern identity.
Across the record, Giddens builds a world where reinvention is not just creative expression, but a response to constant change. The concept examines what happens when adaptation stops feeling like freedom and instead becomes a requirement to keep going.
With “We No Play,” Giddens sets the emotional and conceptual framework for a project that pushes beyond surface-level storytelling, positioning FTM as a deeper reflection on identity, displacement, and the mental weight of staying in motion.
