IDY Bridges Cultures With “Different”

IDY returns with “Different,” a new Afrobeat release that continues to build his presence from Guadeloupe to a wider global audience. The track stands as a tribute to a woman he sees as unique, setting her apart through both sound and message.

Blending Afrobeat with a Caribbean French touch, “Different” reflects IDY’s cross-cultural identity. The record was created in collaboration with Nigerian hitmaker Kiel Tee, adding another layer to its global influence and direction.

Born Mayel Idriss BA in Dakar in 1996, IDY is a French-Senegalese artist shaped by multiple worlds. At the age of eight, he moved from Senegal to Marie-Galante in Guadeloupe, where music became both refuge and expression. It was there he first stepped onto the stage under the name Skiiny, releasing early songs like “Maman,” “Dis-moi,” and “Dans ton regard.”

Beyond music, IDY’s personality and values shape his artistry. He draws inspiration from everyday life, family moments, and strong principles rooted in tolerance and justice. His work reflects a clear stance against intolerance and racism, while promoting themes of love, identity, and hope.

His career gained momentum in 2018 after connecting with Franco-Malian artist Clayton Hamilton, opening doors to collaborations and influences from artists such as Fababy and L’Artiste. This period helped define his hybrid sound, blending African and Caribbean elements.

Tracks like “Woulo” marked his radio debut, followed by “Amina” in 2021, a song that celebrated his cultural influences. In 2025, he took a major step forward by signing with Chabine Prod and releasing “Wandedu,” a track centered on purification and personal clarity. The video, shot in Guadeloupe by Jima Kanor, presented a focused and emotionally grounded artist.

With “Different,” IDY continues to shape a sound that reflects his roots and global vision. Inspired by artists such as Youssou N’Dour, Wizkid, and La Fouine, he aims to create music that connects across borders.

Driven by energy, openness, and cultural pride, IDY represents a new generation of Afro-Caribbean artists building their identity on both tradition and modern influence.
