Judith Owen Celebrates the Spirit of Jazz and Blues on “Suit Yourself”

Judith Owen returns with “Suit Yourself,” a new album that brings together jazz, blues, and big band influences in a way that feels lively, expressive, and full of character. The project was recorded in New Orleans at Esplanade Studios and captures the energy and warmth that have become central to Owen’s recent work.

The album brings together everything that has shaped Judith Owen’s sound over the past few years. From upbeat swing moments to slower emotional performances, “Suit Yourself” moves through different moods while keeping a strong sense of personality throughout. The record reflects her love for classic jazz and blues music while allowing her own voice and style to remain at the center.

Throughout the album, Owen reimagines songs connected to legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Nellie Lutcher, and Etta James. Her performances balance elegance and emotion, moving naturally between playful energy and deeper reflection. Tracks like the first single “That’s Why I Love My Baby” carry a smooth and confident charm, while songs like “Inside Out” lean into a more soulful and uplifting atmosphere.

The project also features several special collaborations. New Orleans artist Davell Crawford joins Owen on “Today I Sing The Blues,” adding another layer of warmth to the album’s sound. Guitarist Joe Bonamassa appears on “Mind Is On Vacation,” while the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir brings a powerful gospel touch to “Inside Out.”

Backing Owen throughout the album are her band, The Gentlemen Callers, alongside the JO Big Band. Together, they create a sound that feels rich and vibrant without losing the intimacy that runs through the project.

Known for blending strong musicality with an engaging stage presence, Judith Owen continues to shape a style that feels both classic and personal. “Suit Yourself” highlights her ability to bring older musical traditions into a modern setting while keeping the focus on emotion, storytelling, and performance.
