Post Death Soundtrack has released their highly anticipated fourth full-length album, “Veil Lifter,” a tempestuous 10-track collection that pushes the boundaries of genre-blending. This new release masterfully fuses doom, grunge, hardcore, and thrash.
Moving away from the orchestrated industrial soundscapes of their previous album, “It Will Come Out of Nowhere,” band members Jon Ireson and Stephen Moore have embraced a raw, organic live sound for “Veil Lifter.” This fresh ‘doom grunge’ approach pays homage to their early influences like Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, and Nirvana, while also drawing inspiration from modern heavy music pioneers such as Russian Circles and Windhand, Queens of the Stone Age, and YOB.
“Veil Lifter” is a relentless journey that captures the outsider mentality with ferocious intensity. Sludgy riffs, hardcore fury, hypnotic grooves, and ethereal ambiance coalesce to create a singular, affecting vision.
Thematically, the album is provocative and uncensored, serving as a rousing invocation of spiritual weaponry and a meditation on mental illness. The title, inspired by the Eastern philosophy concept of “lifting the veil of ignorance,” points to intrinsic truths beyond external forms and ideas.
Steve Moore describes the album as “completely uncensored, unashamedly dark, raw emotionally, and therefore, cathartic and freeing.” Written during challenging times, it embodies themes of isolation, depression, addiction, and resilience.
“Veil Lifter is very much the album I’ve always wanted to make. It is intended to be completely uncensored, unashamedly dark, raw emotionally, and therefore, cathartic and freeing. It was written from deep within the shadow during nearly impossible times—isolation, depression, addiction, chaos, burned bridges, health failures, and strangely, perseverance and the resilience of the inner witness. So in many ways, it’s an invocation of protection and spiritual weaponry at a time when it was greatly needed.” – He Shares
The album is rich with metaphor and dream language, painting powerful pictures rather than being overly direct. Influences from Advaita, the Gita, Zen, and philosophers like Krishnamurti find their way into the concepts and lyricism. This raw album is intended to evoke deeply personal emotions, written from a truly dangerous place.
Veil Lifter is dedicated to the memory of Steve’s father, Ted George Moore.
Jon Ireson also details the album’s creation, noting the shift from their previous electronic production to a more guitar-driven sound. The addition of Casey Lewis brings an intensity that makes the record truly punch.
Jon Shares – “Steve had amassed a treasure trove of guitar parts that he would send me daily. A lot of slow dirges with some faster hardcore-inspired stuff mixed in. That inspired the new direction for this record. We knew it was going to be a pretty big change ditching all the electronic production stuff we had done on our other records, but when you listen to a song like ‘Bridge Burner’ off the last album, you can see the direction we were heading.”
The bones of the songs came together quickly, with drums, rhythm guitars, and some bass arranged in two intense week-long bursts. The album truly came to life with Steve’s vocal layers, fuzzy melodic bass lines, and the addition of Casey Lewis, whose intensity and personality make the record truly punch.
Steve Moore on “Lowdown Animal”: “The hyena has become a kind of symbol for the band. With lions, tigers, and bears, you have a good idea of what to expect from their brute strength. But hyenas represent the outsider, the unwelcome drifter, the cursed sneak. We’ll sneak up, surround the mighty lion, and take it down while laughing.”
“Veil Lifter” is now available on all platforms, with a limited edition vinyl run expected soon. Don’t miss this groundbreaking release from Post Death Soundtrack – a raw, powerful album that promises to evoke deeply personal emotions and challenge listeners with its uncompromising vision.
