Apple Music Marks Africa Month 2026 by Spotlighting Luanda

Luanda

As part of Africa Month 2026, Apple Music spotlights Luanda, Angola, in its ongoing Sounds of Africa initiative, celebrating the music shaping one of the continent’s most influential cultural capitals.

Across Africa, cities continue to define the direction of global music, and Luanda stands at the forefront as a city where rhythm and cultural expression are deeply intertwined.

The Sounds of Luanda playlist is curated by a collective of artists and tastemakers, including Teo No Beat, Anna Joyce, and MC Prodígio, each offering a perspective on the sounds that define the city. Bringing together both foundational recordings and contemporary releases, the playlist captures Luanda’s musical identity across generations.

At the heart of this identity is semba, one of Angola’s most traditional rhythms and a genre that has influenced global styles including Brazilian samba. From these roots emerged globally recognised genres such as kizomba, kuduro and tarraxinha, which continue to travel across borders and shape international dance culture.

“Luanda is more than a city to me, it is my school, my stage, and my source of inspiration,” says producer Teo No Beat. “These songs represent our streets, our struggles, our celebrations, our love stories and our dreams… this playlist tells the story of who we are and where we are going.”

Complementing the playlist is an exclusive DJ mix curated by Angolan DJ, DJ Malvado — a key figure in shaping the country’s contemporary dance sound. Featuring tracks from artists including AfroKillerz, Djeff, DJ Waldo and Teo No Beat, the mix captures the energy, movement, and spirit of Luanda’s dancefloors.

“Through this selection, I can share the joy, energy, and spirit of our music,” DJ Malvado says. “Angola is one of the countries where music and dance always go hand in hand, full of rhythm, creativity and passion.”

Through The Sounds of Africa Apple Music highlights Luanda’s enduring influence — a sound that is both deeply rooted in tradition and continuously evolving on the global stage.
